The continuing efforts of airlines to improve the safety record of the industry require a comprehensive and carefully structured approach to the management of all aspects of airline safety. Both the airlines and the regulatory authorities recognize the need to form a structured Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure the integration of appropriate safety practices within the daily operation of each and every airline.

The main goal of a safety management process is to identify possible hazards in the daily operation with significant risk of an accident, injury or damage. After identifying these possible hazards, the airline should be able to decide on appropriate corrective action, with the help of the SMS, to eliminate this risk or at least to reduce it to acceptable levels. An integral part of this process is to monitor the corrective action that was taken and test its efficiency.

An important element of each SMS is establishing a formal reporting procedure within the airline management that will enable the senior management to:

Monitor the level of safety performance that is being achieved throughout the organization.
Be aware of all of the possible threats or risks.
Take appropriate corrective action to minimize those risks.

This requires the availability of operational data and means for analyzing this data.

FavoWeb answers with the 4 basic requirements from SMS:

Collection and management of operational data
FavoWeb basic configuration and functionality allows for uniform and easy data collection. Forms are flexible and allow management to identify fields/data to be collected and tracked. FavoWeb was designed to be user friendly and wherever possible, to operate on "point and-click" options, so that data collection is easy and therefore accurate. This also facilitates analysis and reporting as "free-text" input is minimized.

Analysis of the data
FavoWeb offers numerous reliability and statistics trending reports combined with the flexible query mechanism.

Risk Assessment RAM Commander Safety Module implements tasks of qualitative and quantitative safety assessment required during system development:
Generation and verification of safety requirements
Identification of all relevant failure conditions
Consideration of all significant combinations of failures causing failure conditions
Generation of output reports beginning with the stage of Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA/ PHA) and ending with the System Safety Assessment (SSA) verifying that the design meets safety requirements

Corrective Action Effectiveness Assessment
FavoWeb's corrective action module provides full support of all corrective action activities: CA definition, implementation, verification and follow-up, documentation of the entire process and measuring the efficiency of the proposed CA with the help of special metrics. This mechanism offers 2 options:
Existing corrective Action Mechanism: from CA identification, FRB/MRB decision making and follow-up to CA implementation
Modified CA mechanism tailored to the requirements
